Os parceiros no projeto s\u00e3o a Uni\u00e3o Europ\u00e9ia, Jap\u00e3o, China, \u00cdndia, Cor\u00e9ia do Sul, R\u00fassia e EUA.<br \/>\n\u00c9 importante salientar que o reator ITER \u00e9 de fus\u00e3o nuclear (e n\u00e3o de fiss\u00e3o). A produ\u00e7\u00e3o cont\u00ednua e eficiente de energia ainda n\u00e3o foi conseguida em nenhum prot\u00f3tipo de fus\u00e3o nuclear, portanto este projeto \u00e9 muito importante para investigar os limites e viabilidade desta tecnologia.<br \/>\nOs perigos de radia\u00e7\u00e3o em um reator de fus\u00e3o s\u00e3o bem menores do que em um de fis\u00e3o. J\u00e1 que um dos res\u00edduos de fus\u00e3o \u00e9 o tr\u00edtio, que tem meia-vida de &#8216;apenas&#8217; 12 anos.<br \/>\nA constru\u00e7\u00e3o do ITER ser\u00e1 na cidade de Cadarache, no sul da Fran\u00e7a. O in\u00edcio da opera\u00e7\u00e3o do ITER est\u00e1 previsto para 2016.
